After selecting the clay, it has to be extracted loose and left to age outside for a year, so that nature does its work on the material. We then dig the clay from our quarries to make our raw material.
From clay to tile
- We mix the clays together, then dilute them into a "slip" (barbotine) to sieve out impurities.
- We filter the earth in the filter press: the raw material is ready.
- We make "cakes" of clay, which are then worked into the desired shape.
- The tiles dry for several weeks.
- Once dry, they are fired in a kiln at over 1050 °C.
